Divorce is a difficult time. The more informed you are, the better for you and your attorney. There are hundreds of general divorce resources on the internet; some of the better ones are below.

DivorceSource.com - an excellent, comprehensive, nationwide information service with articles, advice, the full text of New York's matrimonial laws, searchable databases of divorce resources and more.

Free legal services for qualified recipients in connection with divorce and separation matters. Legal Services has some in-house free representation on a priority basis (priority given to victims of domestic violence, for example, and others needing emergency service). There is a waiting list for non-emergency cases. In addition to in-house representation, the office can provide referrals to lawyers in Orange County, New York who are willing to do "pro bono" (free) representation for those with qualified incomes. Legal Services will initially contact that attorney for you and give you his or her name and periodically monitors whether the matter has been completed. Generally, to be eligible for free legal services you must meet a needs test (your income may not exceed a certain percentage of the poverty line, frequently 125%) or whatever formula is currently in use, or you are not eligible for free representation. All household income is subject to inclusion, within limits.
